Naturally to Your Door: Local San Diego Produce

I may have mentioned farmers' markets once or twice on this blog, and I love going to them, but I'm a bit too lazy (i.e. not willing to commit to a Saturday or Sunday morning) to really visit any of them regularly enough to depend on them for produce. That's where Naturally to Your Door comes in.

Their selection is not as wide and varied as Whole Foods market or online shop Organic to You, but their prices are a bit better, and it's convenient to get a delivery of green goodies midweek. I've been very pleased with all the produce we've purchased from them so far. Here's to more healthy eating delivered straight to my door!

Purple Carrots: I partially peel the carrots to leave a dash of purple, which reveals some lovely colors underneath, as well!

Celery that's actually GREEN!

  1. I loved my CSA in San Diego and totally miss purple carrots! I would pick up a big box every other week at the Hillcrest Market and the only advantage to picking it up in person (which seems almost like the same benefit as your service) is you could exchange 1 or 2 items for something else you saw at their stand. Those boxes definitely encourage healthy eating - can't let a box full of produce go to waste.

    1. With this service you can choose a preset box (with no flexibility, as far as swapping things out goes) or design your own box, which is what I do. I imagine the boxes at Hillcrest market, however, are probably a much better deal than delivery service. Maybe I'll make more of an effort this summer when school lets out. (Let me know which farmer you used!) And yes, I make sure I use every last morsel of the produce we get!

    1. Yuck! I guess the weather there is not really conducive to year-round veggie farming, huh?

  3. I love farmer's markets! Unfortunately here the prices are waaaaay too high and the sellers are not always forthcoming when it comes to where the produce comes from. I am more than happy to pay more for organic and local produce, but it's not always clear here... plus I am a bit lazy too ;-)

    1. You know, when I lived in CH I rarely went to farmers' markets anyway because the produce at Migros or Coop was often local!

  4. Amanda, Matt and I were just talking about finally getting a veg box from our local organic farm too! I think it's a genius idea -- especially when going on the kind of diet we have (I say "we" but I've been quite lax the past three weeks!). We were hiking to a cheaper grocer every week and walking back with about 50-60 pounds of veg split between us -- I really detested that Saturday morning ritual.
I hope you are feeling great and things are going well for you!

    1. 50 pounds of veggies?? Holy Cow! I forget that you juice so you need way more veggies. We'd go broke if we had to buy that much produce!

I do feel great; so far so good, but the best is yet to come ;) Thanks, Lar!

  6. Amanda, those vivid colors on the carrots and celery make me green with envy! Our farmer's market doesn't start for a month and our Whole Foods veggies don't look like this!
