Hunter's Favorite Books

OK, so this post is more about the books we adults like reading with him, as he hasn't clearly shown his preferences for any one particular author or collection. At least not yet ;)

We only have one book from this collection, but we hope to get more. Mama and Baby is the title, and it is great for so many reasons. First, since it has no words, we can make up the story as we please. Because Hunter's attention span these days is quite short, we make the "story" very simple and quick, but later we can elaborate and spend more time on each page. Next, I can "read" it to Hunter in Spanish while Isaiah "reads" it in English. It's multilingual! Finally, these books are made for babies to chew on and attempt to destroy. If it gets dirty, you can throw it in with the laundry! Although it's printed in China, it does meet US toy safety guidelines.

We also only have one book from this board book collection: El Mar. The illustrations are beautiful and the text is simple, perfect for a small baby with a short attention span. Every title has a silly little twist at the end that makes you want to read another title in the collection. Excellent strategy because I definitely want the other three books in the collection!

We received two board books by this author as shower gifts, The Going to Bed Book and Snuggle Puppy, but we have yet to read them with Hunter since they are quite text heavy. They are very cute stories, nonetheless, and we look forward to the time his attention span is long enough to listen to them. I did, however, come across a few titles at the library that are more age appropriate, like this one called Moo, Baa, La La La! (Don't worry, I wipe down each book from the library before allowing Hunter to handle it.)

I am going to keep my eye out for other titles by this author that have just a few words on each page. A huge plus is that many texts by this author are printed here in USA, which is difficult to find these days in the children's book section.

P.S. You can also get a personalized Sandra Boynton book with your child's name in it!

  1. I love Boynton books - I have too many memorized already. I like the Belly Button book the best!

    1. I have not checked that one out yet! Yay! By the way, replying to this post and the 2 cloth diaper posts count as extra entries to the clog giveaway, so if you want to go back to the rafflecopter widget this week, you can enter 3 more times under the "Leave Another Comment" option. You can use that entry once per day. If you don't get around to it, I will add the entries for you ;)
